things to do

An abundance of things to do around the Peak District and Staffordshire Moorlands

great days out

something for everyone

Alton Towers, wildlife park, National Trust and much more…

It’s only a 15 minute drive to Alton Towers, the UK’s most popular theme park. The wonderful child friendly Peak Wildlife Park is just around the corner as too is the Churnet Valley Railway – a steam train through spectacular scenery.

Head to the historic homes and gardens of Sudbury Hall, Calke Abbey, Kedleston Hall, Chatsworth and Haddon Hall.  Or take a trip to some of our nearby villages and towns such as Ashbourne, Bakewell, Buxton, Ilam, Hartington and Leek.

It is in a great location for walking, Alton Towers is nearby and also recommend a visit to Peak Wildlife Park

Walking routes, cycling trails and watersports

We are located in the Peak District, voted the fourth best National Park in the world!

For walkers, there’s the beautiful Dales (Beresford Dale, Wolfscote Dale, Biggin Dale, Dovedale etc). Exploring on two wheels, we have our traffic free cycle trails; Manifold Trail, Tissington Trail and the High Peak Trail.

There’s also a diverse range of other activities such as climbing, caving, watersports, hangliding, mountain biking etc.

A trip to Ilam gave all the family something to explore. Great memories can be made in just 3 days

The Red Lion Inn, serving home-cooked food, is a 200-yard stroll down the lane and in neighbouring Waterhouses you’ll find Ye Olde Crown Inn, a cafe, post office and convenience store. The historic market towns of Ashbourne and Leek – both about 10 minutes away, have some great options for eating too.
